Introduction

Mambretti Tech is a company specializing in die casting, with extensive experience in hot chamber die casting technologies and in the development of innovative systems such as applied vacuum and advanced consumables for metal alloy die casting.

The problem

In the traditional hot chamber die casting process for zinc alloys, the high speeds and turbulence of the liquid metal generate frequent gas porosity, which causes cosmetic defects in the casting. These defects become costly, especially in industries where castings undergo surface treatments such as painting or nickel plating.

The solution

The project plans to apply rheocasting technology, typically used in cold chamber aluminum die casting, to hot chamber die casting of zinc alloys.

Technologies

The main technological innovations include:

Modification of the press for working with semi-solid metal

Vacuum application using the Fondvacuum patent to improve filling and reduce defects

Use of vacuum-fed atomized lubricant-release agent for more efficient lubrication

Integrated vision system for checking correct cavity filling at each cycle, with real-time feedback to the press control system

Desired impacts

Technological: Absolute innovation in the zinc alloy die casting sector, introducing the semi-solid process.

Economical: Reduction in scrap rate and improvement in the aesthetic and mechanical quality of castings.

Environmental: Energy savings thanks to lower energy consumption for temperature maintenance and reduced use of lubricants and release agents, with benefits in terms of waste management.

Benefits for the company

– Strengthening of market positioning thanks to an innovative and technologically advanced offering

– Expansion of customer value proposition with new solutions and ancillary technologies

– Possibility of applying technologies developed in other sectors and production processes
