CP Technology S.r.l. is an Italian company with over 30 years of experience in the design and manufacture of special equipment for the infrastructure sector.

Digitalnology S.r.l is an Italian company specializing in the development of advanced digital solutions for the infrastructure and construction sectors. Part of the CPT group, the company stands out for its integration of technologies such as digital twins, artificial intelligence, IoT, and industrial automation.

The problem

The construction of a tunnel involves various players (contracting authority, builders, and subcontractors), who operate independently, without a real system for consolidating and integrating information. Therefore, data relating to the manufacturing, construction, logistics (of materials), monitoring, and maintenance phases of the excavation are fragmented and not easily accessible.

Technologies

IoT platform capable of collecting, storing, and integrating all the information and parameters necessary for managing the progress of a tunnel excavation.

IoT sensors and remote tracking and monitoring solution for the machining process of machinery (milling machines) and equipment used in excavation.

Mobile devices (tablets, cell phones, barcode readers) provided to workers for data collection during the manufacturing process.

The platform will enable all stakeholders, at various levels of involvement, to monitor the three main phases of the work and coordinate them appropriately: – excavation using a tunnel boring machine (TBM); – prefabrication of the segments that make up the tunnel lining; – logistics related to the segments that need to be installed. Information will be collected directly from the machinery, adding other data obtained from human activities through dematerialized reports, barcode readers, etc.

Desired impacts

The project has an impact on four main phases:

Excavation: monitoring of the operating parameters of the excavation machine (rotation speed of the head or thrust force or head torque or auger speed or pressures or temperatures or force on bearings)

Receipt of reports and alerts for each parameter measured (georeferenced map, historical data series for each parameter, history of work and maintenance carried out on the excavation machine)

Precast segments: production and warehouse monitoring, traceability of the production process for each segment, management of raw material stocks (automatic reordering when below threshold).

Logistics for tanned hides: integrated view of production, storage, and installation warehouses for supply chain optimization.
