Neodecortech S.p.A. is a leading European company in the production of decorative surfaces for melamine faced panels and flooring used in the interior design industry. The Group’s activity takes the form of the production of complete and technologically advanced solutions for the realization of interior design projects, covering all stages of the production process for the production of decorative paper, from the management of raw materials, through surface finishing and impregnation, to the finished product and end-of-line logistics management. The Group is able to offer 7 categories of products: decorative papers; decorative prints; finish foil; melamine film; PPF and PPLF, laminates, Eos anti imprint surfaces
The problem
The Neodecortech Group found the need to undertake a Digital Evolution project, aimed at identifying technological and Industry 4.0 solutions to increase productivity, digitize processes, reduce operating costs, and consequently achieve more efficient management capable of providing integrated and timely information to support various decision-making processes.
Among the main reasons that led the Group to undertake the Information Systems overhaul project, we can point to the following:
- Average age of management systems;
- Different Software Platforms between the Filago and Casoli plants, despite being part of the same legal entity;
- Some suppliers of the different software solutions no longer active in the market;
- Complex information system with numerous integration interfaces to be maintained.
The solution
During the project, a common process modeling was created for the different group companies involved, in line with industry best practices and with the goal of increased digitization of these processes.
Specifically, under Plan to Schedule, all processes and methodologies for demand forecasting, as well as the information flow required for planning, were reviewed and evaluated.
A specific model was created for the integration of demand forecasting and production management, clearly identifying tools and methodologies to ensure an integrated planning process with aspects of innovativeness and greater accuracy than today’s business practices.
In the Make to Deploy area, procedures and standards were redefined for the quality of materials and products that are used by Neodecortech in its operations.
In this area, it was essential to redefine process steps, control standards and information tools for better data management for quality control and product traceability.
Warehouse procedures were also examined to ensure proper product management, traceability, and technical and technological procedures to optimize the crossings of any material or product within the Group’s warehouses.
As part of Invest to Maintain, activities for investment management for the design and installation of new facilities were examined and redesigned. Within these processes, the main benefits sought were the tracking of data on investments made in the company, the ability to manage investments at the Cross Group level, manage budget approvals, cost progress, and documentation to measure the benefits of investments.
Desired Impacts
Specifically, from the implementation of the redesign that emerged during the innovation project, Neodecortech expects several industrial impacts.
The implementation of the Digital Evolution project will have significant impacts on the company’s competitiveness in the decorative paper manufacturing industry.
It is believed that the digitization of production processes will have a significant impact on corporate sustainability.
Benefits for the company
Through the optimization of Plan to Schedule, Make to Deploy and Invest To Maintain processes, Neodecortech expects a significant increase in overall productivity.
Digitization of processes will allow for greater flexibility and adaptability, enabling the company to respond more quickly to market demands. Reduced production time and the ability to provide highly customized products will position the company as an innovative leader, helping to maintain and expand its market share.
Optimization of production processes will reduce waste of raw materials and energy consumed, contributing to more sustainable production. Future implementation of advanced resource management solutions, such as efficient energy use and waste reduction, will result in a positive impact on the environment. In addition, digitization of logistics processes will contribute to more efficient management of supplies and shipments, reducing the overall environmental impact of business operations.
