Omme Gears is an SME specialized in the design and sale of gearboxes alongside the manufacture of medium and large gears.
The problem
With the increase in customers and products sold, design activities have become time consuming, especially in managing the history, technical changes and customizations required. Since design is the entity responsible for producing technical documentation for internal and external use, it becomes critical to keep it efficient to avoid negative impacts in downstream activities.
Hence the need for the introduction of a Product Lifcycle Management software platform in order to support engineering activities while also integrating the production organization offices, the purchasing department and production with the aim of arriving at a single repository repository of the company’s technical know-how that supports collaboration among the various teams.
In more detail, the project aims to improve the management of technical changes and product revisions by avoiding duplication of codes for geometrically identical elements and by streamlining the creation and search of documentation through the structuring of a single repository.
To improve the traceability and efficiency of pre- and post-production processes, the aim is to reduce data-entry errors to zero by implementing an automatic handover of the MBOM to the company’s existing ERP/MRP system, and dedicated codes for managing all components of a product are planned.
The solution
Technology:
- SIEMENS PLM: TEAM CENTER to be integrated with corporate ERP
Desired Impacts
- Elimination of local storage systems or resident servers based on the directory concept
- Uniqueness of the storage point and the data it contains
- Unambiguousness of data flow between various management systems
- Data tracking from project data
Benefits for the company
- Management of technical changes and product revisions shared by all business entities
- Integration of the various entities involved in the design/production process
- Elimination of errors caused by data-entry
- Elimination of the problem of duplicate codes with the same geometric identity
- Simplified technical data consultation to all functions
