The push toward industry 4.0 has led to increasingly strong integration between production facilities and administrative processes. Not only has this allowed for increased productivity through increased automation, but it has also enabled the collection of an ever-increasing amount of data.
Data that is a very important asset that needs to be properly protected on par with applications as well as plants.
In this field, industrial cybersecurity brings together methods, techniques, and tools to protect information, application, and technological assets both related to production facilities and to administrative processes. The different natures of the potential attacker, who may be internal or external to the company, the different target of the attack, which may involve IT as well as OT, require integrated action. This goes from appropriate network design and segmentation, to the adoption of cryptographic techniques in order to ensure for one’s system the properties of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
