Logistics 4.0

Logistics 4.0 is a cluster of technologies supporting the movement of goods in the supply chain. Within the Logistics 4.0 cluster we find both hardware technologies, such as IoT and RFId sensing, pick-to-light systems, AGVs and RTLS tracking systems, and software technologies such as middleware software and orchestrators.

Logistics 4.0 enabling technologies such as IoT sensing track production progress in real time, efficiency is recovered, and safety is guarded. The IoT sensor, like an electronic tag, identifies the individual part and accompanies it throughout its life cycle, monitors its progress and tracks the transformations undergone by the part. This allows instantaneous control of process quality while minimizing waste resulting from the unnecessary accumulation of resources, and monitors the progress of production by promoting coordination of resources in terms of space and time

Another example of logistics 4.0 is mobile assets monitored through RTLS systems that provide real-time information to ensure safety in handling processes and improve resource productivity. Thanks to continuous tracking, disordered, and intertwined flows, waits, unnecessary movements can be easily identified, and measured; also potential dangerous situations related to speed and proximity between of handling assets and people. With the combination of real-time monitoring of SW for retrospective analysis, internal logistics becomes a mirror of factory efficiency.
