SOCAF S.p.A is an Italian company with over 40 years of experience in the professional cleaning and industrial cooling sector.
SOCAF needed to equip its cooling products with capabilities to collect operating data and send this information to a remote endpoint for data logging and to implement services for itself and its customers, such as predictive maintenance scenarios and remote control of the cooler.
The Smart Cooler project involved completely re-engineering the cooling product. Thanks to the creation of a proof of concept prototype, the new version of the product has an extended set of features for identifying anomalies and faults.
The new version of the product features a technologically advanced and customised power and control board that introduces new sensing and connectivity technologies to address shortcomings in industrial coolers. A cloud infrastructure has also been developed to enable connection and two-way communication between the industrial cooler and the cloud, providing centralised, real-time management of operations. Throughout all phases of the project, from the feasibility study of the solution to industrial research to explore and select the different technologies for designing the electronic hardware components (power, control and sensors) for the final solution, up to the experimental development for creating the PoC and prototype, MADE4.0 provided SOCAF with support and advice in collaboration with its partner Cefriel.
The acquisition and analysis of data from industrial coolers represent an invaluable source of useful information for improving business performance and providing high-quality services to customers. This approach to innovation allows the company to proactively address market challenges, creating a distinctive competitive advantage and enabling SOCAF to consolidate its leadership position in the industrial cooler sector.

– Customer loyalty: a prototype that meets customer needs and offers new features or improved solutions helps retain existing customers and attract new ones.
– Competitiveness and differentiation: an innovative, high-performance prototype allows the company to stand out from its competitors, increasing its competitiveness in the market.
– Early identification of problems: Through feedback from customers and stakeholders, the prototype can reveal problems or gaps that need to be corrected before full-scale production, avoiding costly changes at a later stage.
