Checking the seals of gas pressure regulators — instruments that manage pressure reduction and regulation in the gas network — is a critical process that is currently still manual. This project aims to automate the testing cycle for “FE” domestic and commercial gas pressure regulators manufactured by the Pietro Fiorentini Group for the US market. It will also create a system for acquiring process parameters to be integrated into the company’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system for analysis.
In fact, a CE-certified machine has been developed that can automate both external leak and internal flow tests on the FE regulator produced by Pietro Fiorentini S.p.A.
It also enables process data to be collected, used and verified, such as:
Accurate calibration of safety devices such as the downstream overpressure lock and the overflow valve.
Input, output, and internal loss values.
Data association to individual products via QR code.
Complete product tracking through interfacing with company information systems;
as well as estimating the carbon footprint of the process by measuring consumption in the air banks and electricity consumed.
System for accurate verification of the intervention pressures of self-reconfiguring safety devices based on the product code.
Monitoring of air consumption using hot-wire anemometers and calculation of the associated carbon footprint.
Precise traceability of process data via QR codes and creation of dashboards for analyzing this data.
Increased production capacity to meet growing market demand.
Increased product margins through increased line productivity.
Possibility of ensuring greater product traceability through the integration of the benches with a data storage structure and interfacing of the test benches with the company’s information systems.
Increase in quality gates (process controls carried out at each cycle), with accurate monitoring of product safety device calibration and data storage.
Greater health and safety guaranteed by the new workbench, in accordance with Directive 2006/42/EC and the most recent and relevant harmonized standards and Pietro Fiorentini’s latest internal guidelines on test bench safety.
Monitoring of consumption and automatic calculation of the process’s carbon footprint in terms of sustainability.
This machine will increase the production capacity and productivity of the line, while also improving operator safety by reducing ergonomic strain.
