Introduction

Valtecne Spa is a company specialising in precision machining for high-tech sectors. With a strong focus on digital innovation, it operates mainly in the domestic and international advanced engineering market, supplying highly customised components for the manufacturing industry.

The problem

Valtecne needed to complete its digitalisation process in order to manage data relating to the tools used in its CNC machines in an integrated manner. Manual, non-digitalised management was causing production inefficiencies linked to long set-up times, assembly errors, redundant tool purchases and a lack of standardisation in processes, with a negative impact on the company’s competitiveness.

The solution

The project involved the creation of an integrated digital system for the extraction, structuring and automatic uploading of tool data into the TP32 management software, which was already in use but not fully connected to the company’s IT systems. A Python application was developed that allows the selection of input files (Excel), management of the parsing and validation phase, and generation of consistent outputs ready for uploading to the TP32 system, thus optimising the entire tool management process.

Technologies

Python application for ETL (Extract, Transform, Load).

TP32 integrated tool management system.

Semantic validation algorithms and data consistency.

Interoperability tools with ERP systems.

Impacts

The project has led to significant improvements in terms of productivity, quality and sustainability.

Competitiveness: Optimisation of CNC machine setup and reduction of errors, with increased production efficiency.

Health and safety: Less operational stress and reduced risk during tool preparation.

Sustainability: Elimination of paper documentation and reduction of energy consumption.

Reshoring: Strengthening competitive capacity to maintain and attract manufacturing to the country.

Benefits for the company

– Reduction in data migration times: from manual processes to 2 minutes per table.

– Increase in OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) thanks to reduced setup times.

– Optimisation of purchases thanks to tool traceability and rotation.

– Greater operational flexibility with the possibility of batch processing and according to production planning.
